Riding solo & unsupported across the United States of America on a Bicycle! This Blog tells the tale of a long haired English bloke on a bike called Shinto cycling across America starting in Oregon and ending in Yorktown Virginia, solo, no support vehicle, just a man, a bike and a tent on the Adventure Cycling Association Trans America Bicycle Trail. Please forgive the endless typos, this blog was uploaded as I rode from my Cellphone.

Todays ride was wonderful! I rode 98 miles to Berea Kentucky the gateway to the Appalachian mountains. I really enjoyed it..the countryside is rolling hills..steep in places and I had to keep telling myself this was not an English summers day in Surrey or Sussex!
Blue sky warm but lots of shade , green grass and trees everywhere...one of the prettiest rides of the trip yet!
Only one dog charge and he gave up when he realized he'd have to rum uphill to get me lol!
I rode to Abraham Lincolns homestead house...the guy clearly came from a poor upbringing.
I met a rider from Kansas city going east..Scott. we rode together for a few minutes ..had a few navigation cock ups because the map was clearly wrong...so I put my.faith in god technology for the test of the ride and set off...when I looked back Scott was nowhere to be seen...oops.
I headed on to Berea and found water at a church in kirkville. The hills here have a habit of making me feel seasick as they are like riding a rollercoaster all day!
Eventually I got to Berea and my stomache took me directly to subway and ordered the biggest sandwich with all the trimmings and four refills of Gatorade! Refills here are free for those Brits reading this.
I was going to camp at the rv park but it was out on the freeway and I valued my life to much..besides I just had a great ride and finished map section 10 of the 12 on the transam so I got a motel with a swimming pool as a treat!

I wished I had a good bicycle to ride when I met you in Dighton, Ks...I would have loved to ride with you to your destination...But would have hated for you to leave for your country when you got there. Good luck Rolf And wish you the best.
